Year 11 – Week 6

b) Outline the Argument from Causation. (6 marks)
c) Explain how the search for meaning and purpose in life may lead to or support belief in God. (8 marks)
d) “The theory of evolution proves that God does not exist.” Do you agree? Give reasons for your opinion, showing that you have considered another point of view. (4 marks)

Homework due on Monday 16 June.

a) Outline Catholic teaching on poverty. (4 marks)

b) Explain what the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats teaches Christians about wealth and poverty. (8 marks)

c) “If all Christians followed the teaching of the Church, there would be no poverty in the world.” Do you agree? Give reasons for your opinion, showing that you have considered another point of view. Refer to Catholicism in your answer.

Year 11 Homework 6

Homework due on Monday 22 October (M3) or Tuesday 23 October (T3).

This week you have a Homework Amnesty. Since you will have sat your assessment for the topic of Believing in God this week, over the holidays you can simply make sure that you have completed all your homeworks from this term, so you can start afresh with the new topic (Matters of Life and Death) when you come back to school. Year 11 Homework 5

End of Unit Assessments will take place during the week beginning Monday 15 October.

Your homework is therefore to revise the topic, Believing in God.

You should make sure you know all the key words: Agnosticism, Atheism, Benevolent, Causation, Conversion, Design, Miracle, Moral Evil, Natural Evil, Numinous, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Prayer.

You should also be able to give examples of these words. (You can download a pdf of the Edexcel Glossary here – you are sitting Unit C this year.)

We have studied the following topics:

Catholic Upbringing and Belief in God
Religious Experience and Belief in God
The Appearance of the World and Belief in God
Other Reasons for Believing in God
Why Some People Do Not Believe in God
Evil and Suffering
The Nature and Importance of Prayer

One method of revising is using a mindmap. Alternatively, you could make notes on index cards and highlight them, asking your parents to help test you.

Finally, remember my Top Tips for Exam Success:

1. Watch your timing (spend about 1 minute per mark)
2. Learn and use your Key Words
3. Write at least six sentences for an Outline question.
4. Give examples in an Explain question – refer to the Bible.
5. In a “Do you agree?” question, always give two reasons for each side of the argument, as well as making your opinion clear.
