Welcome to Year 10

This post is for all new Year 10s. I have uploaded a new podcast welcoming you to the start of your GCSE, and briefly outlining what you will be studying this year.

6.2 Homework Y10

Homework due on Monday 16 June.

a) Outline Catholic teaching on poverty. (4 marks)

b) Explain what the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats teaches Christians about wealth and poverty. (8 marks)

c) “If all Christians followed the teaching of the Church, there would be no poverty in the world.” Do you agree? Give reasons for your opinion, showing that you have considered another point of view. Refer to Catholicism in your answer.

Complete the questions either on the homework sheet given in class, or leave your answers as a comment on this blog.

Here is a very brief overview of the topics so you can revise over the weekend for this exam!

4.1 Homework Y10

Homework due for Thursday 28 February.

Revise for the Worship and Celebration assessment. Make sure you know all the key words and can describe the Sacraments of Initiation and Healing as well as the main events in the Liturgical Year.

Top Tips for the Test:
1) Know the key words!
2) Spend roughly one minute per mark.
3) Outline … write about six sentence, describe at least three points.
4) Explain … use the word because! PEE four times. Write at least 8 sentences.
5) Statement - do you agree? Give at least one reason why someone might agree, at least one reason why someone might disagree, and state what your opinion is and why.

Homework is due on Monday 4 February 2008.

‘All Christians should receive the Eucharist in the same way’
Do you agree? Give reasons for your opinion, showing that you have considered another point of view. In your answer you should refer to Christianity. 4 marks

Homework due on Monday 28 January.

1) Outline what happens in the Sacrament of Baptism. (6 marks)
2) Explain why the Mass is important for Catholics. (8 marks)

You will be given a sheet to complete your answers on.

Complete the revision sheet on the Mass. You should have covered everything on it in Year 8 … if you are stuck, perhaps you could visit the Year 8 blog page (see link on right hand side)!

Homework due on Monday 14 January 2008.

Learn the key words for the topic: Worship and Celebration.

These are: absolution, advent, chrism, Christmas, contrition, Easter, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Liturgy of the Eucharist, Penitential Rite, Real Presence, renewal of baptismal vows, Rite of Communion, sacrifice, tabernacle, transubstantiation, water, viaticum, vows.

As you can see, during this topic we will be learning about the Sacraments of Initiation (baptism, confirmation and the Eucharist), lots about the Mass, and all about the Liturgical Year. I hope you were paying attention during Advent and over Christmas!
